  • using IPA wipe down after polishing

Hey guys, some people use IPA to wipe down after polishing to get rid of the oils before the LSP, could you also achieve similar by washing with palmolive.

Yes you could, but I would not recommend it. Dish washing soap is meant to cut heavy grease that is caked onto cooking plates and can cause premature clear coat failure if used on paint enough. Dish soap is for dishes, car soap is for cars!

What is your reason for wanting to get rid of polishing oils before your LSP?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

to make sure no swirls are being hidden, also, arent you supposed to use dish liquid before claying, to get rid of the wax first.

IPA is better suited to the job.

Check whether you've achieved full correction after the cleaning stage (e.g. after #105 or #83). Then use your preferred cleaner/polish (e.g #205 or #80) and move straight to a wax. Its a shame to waste the polishing oils, which add that crucial bit of bling to the end look.

Some use dish soap to remove wax before they clay, but claying alone will remove wax. Honestly, I would do a test spot, and do an IPA wipe-down. If it looks suitable, then go ahead and do the rest of the car and don't do an IPA wipe-down because the polishing oils do add a lot of depth to car paint.

If you are using an organic wax as your LSP oil will enhance the gloss

If you're using a polymer oils will negativly affect its bonding and durability

A spray and wipe of 50/50 solution of IPA and distilled water seems to be the most common choice of detailers to remove polishing oils to check their work. Some use windshield cleaner. I doubt any would use dishwashing liquid at this stage of the detailing process.

I tend to agree. The only times I have streaking problems with NXT is after some form of polishing. Before I used a DA it was great stuff. Maybe my streaks are from the oils in the polishing steps...m20 doesn't streak, but might help remove the oils.

Maybe you applied it too thick .

I'm going to clay my hood again and not polish it and see if it streaks.
