  • Too much wax with NXT 2.0

First of all, hi to everyone...
My name is Manu and I am a newbie when it comes to car cleaning...
I bought NXT 2.0 wax and applied it on my 2 month old car. It looks like I put way too much wax on the car, I didn't notice that I should only apply a thin layer on it.
So it took me 45 mns to remove most of it with a microfiber cloth but I still can't seem to get rid of the last 2 or 3% as in the sun, I still see wax traces (although only at certain angles). I'm sure it's supposed to be spotless.

    Should I wash the car?
Or use additional elbow grease until there are no wax traces left?
if so, can I wait 24 hours (as I have to leave) or doe it absolutely need to be removed immediately?

Thanks in advance for your advice,
    Mans

Manu, it sounds like you applied too much wax and that you tried to remove it too soon. NXT, like every other wax, needs to be applied thin. NXT also needs, depending on temperature and humidity, 20 to 30+ minutes to set-up before removal.

I would go ahead and wash the car and see how it looks. Hopefully the washing will remove any remaining wax residue. If the washing doesn't remove it, then I'd do a TEST SPOT with NXT. Apply a THIN layer of NXT to a 1'x1' square on the hood. Allow it to haze--maybe 20-30 minutes. Do the swipe test. If it comes off easily with a finger swipe, it's ready to remove. Then examine the test spot. Is the wax residue from the previously applied coat gone? If it is, then go ahead and re-wax the car with NXT, remembering to only apply a thin coat.

If this doesn't work, then I'd run down to the store and purchase a bottle of Megs' Cleaner Wax. It's inexpensive and is a handy product to have around. Cleaner Wax will remove all previously applied wax and will leave behind a layer of protection. Then top it with a thin coat of NXT and you're good to go!

    Good luck!

Thanks Akimel...should the recoating be done with NXT 2.0 as well? (I don't have another wax product).
Also, can this wait tomorrow or if I applied too much wax I should wash the car immediately as it may impact the paint?
      Thanks again.

Yes, after washing the car, do the initial test spot with NXT and see if the re-waxing removes the wax residue.

You can wait as long as you want. The dried wax aint' going to hurt anything.

Buff it out with a QD would also help... with NXT you should apply very very thin and let it cure properly to get maximum result

Re: Too much wax with NXT 2.0

If you put it on thin and let it dry you should be able to remove it just like wiping dust off the vehicle. You should be able to remove all the excess wax from a vehicle in 5 minutes tops.

The left side is the proper amount of wax

Swipe test to tell if it is dry

When I apply wax, I let it sit on there for around an hour before I attempt to remove it.
Too dry is never an issue.

                QD is Quick Detailer

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                Remove swirls my friends.

NXT 2.0 seems to be very finicky in the amount of time you let it dry and whether to dries in the sun or not. Gold Class Plus seems more forgiving and since I detail outside for lack of a garage, it is my wax of choice. Just my 2 cents.

I can never get NXT not to streak...at least not this last bottle I have had. NXT was always good to me until I get NXT 2.0 and I put it on so thin you can not even see it and it still streaks. M20 is my choice and makes the cars look great! I have used M20 for about a year now and went back to my NXT on Thursday when I waxed my gt and it streaked again. This bottle is going in the trash....
