  • SwirlX on Car Glass?

    Hi,

I just used Meguiar's Heavy Cut Cleaner to remove hard water spots all over my vehicles exterior glass. Worked Great!

Question is, can I now use Swirlx, to clean up some of the swirl marks left after the Heavy Cut Cleaner?

    Thanks for the Answers!

You have swirl marks after the #4?

Are you sure it isnt streaking? Or how did you apply it? #4 itself will not affect the glass at all.

I applied it with a clean Meguiar's Pad by hand in a circular overlapping motion on the glass.

Does not appear to be streaking but almost like a webbing/swirling effect on the glass. It is noticeable in the direct sunlight.

Swirlx will not remove imperfections in the glass itself. It is not near strong enough. You need a specific compound (cerium oxide I believe) in order to correct glass. It is not the same as paint, it is much harder. This is why the M04 should not have scratched the glass but only removed the water spots. This is the first time I have heard of this problem.

I have never heard of #4 doing this. Are you sure it is not left over product? Have you tried claying the glass?

              Re: SwirlX on Car Glass?

As others have already mentioned, it takes special compounds specifically designed for polishing glass in order to penetrate glass.

First I'd try cleaning the glass with an APC. This should be able to remove any residual product that may be left over giving you the streaking affect you mentioned. You could also try to use the same product again applying it with a D/A buffer. I prefer this method over hand applications because it applies a smooth even coat across the entire surface.

Give it a try and let us know how you make out.

Just to mention, I had some HARD stains on the paint and glass of my Trans Am and it was due to a leaky roof in a storage garage I have access too. What ever tar or roofing meterial leaked on the hood and glass. Clay would not get it but some SwirlX and a clean MF applicator and very little pressure took it off with ease. Very pleased with SwirlX.
