  • Problems with megs 40

Applied a light coat of #40 to the dash of my Malibu yesterday. The interior color is called cocoa/cashmere (the upper dash is dark brown). Most of the dash is a rubbery material but there is a small compartment on the top of the dash that has a harder plastic cover, although it is the same dark brown color. Today I noticed that the cover appears about 4 shades lighter than the rest of the dash, even though I applied the same light coat of #40 to all areas. So, I used some plain water and wiped down the whole dash and let it dry, hoping that all of the 40 would be removed and the colors would match, no luck. No matter what I do , the cover stays discolored. ....NOT a happy camper! Any ideas?

I would wipe the dash down with a cotton towel and APC and follow that with an application of Quik Interior Detailer.

Use the APC to give it a thorough cleaning. Then see if the discoloration is still present.

I gave it a thorough cleaning with APC and dried it with a clean MF towel. The discoloration looks more like the chemical reacted with the plastic than it does like there is residue on the plastic. The problem remains the same. As for putting QID on the dash....won't happen, I learned my lesson. No anything on the dash, I will clean it and forget any protectant. Waiting for a price on the new plastic door. I thought that these products were safer to use than that.

I've been using the Gold Class Vinyl/Rubber Protectant on my Bu with Xcellent results, crazy for the M40 to react that way

Yeah, that is puzzling to me.

I am very leery on what I use on my interiors, and #40 doesn't scare me. It's a bit shiny, but in a week, that is a gone.

Could you post some pictures for us to see?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

              I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
              Remove swirls my friends.
