  • Having trouble with black '01 Passat, pics

Hey guys, I'm looking forward to learning the ropes. I've been a lurker for a couple weeks now and was honestly pretty amazed at the results people get from the consumer line of products like swirl X and UC.

I bought some Swirl X and UC to try on my sisters Passat. I've tried Swirl X and UC with a PC 7424 with a LC orange (light cutting/polishing) pad with out any luck. I started working the product in on speed setting 1 then moved up to 5 but can't get all of the scratches out.

I'm fairly a newb to buffing so I'm sure it's user error. Maybe you guys can't point me in the right direction. Maybe I need to try with a more aggressive pad, or maybe some m105 on a different pad?
This is after a couple passes with Swirl X, then a couple passes with UC.

I see that I can't post pics by copy & pasting images URL's, or msg forum codes into the insert picture link. I've been searching for the last 20 minutes and the MOL gallery says my pictures exceed the limit. Will someone post the pictures for me if I send them in an email or post the links:

From the pictures, it looks like you'll need to go more aggressive. Normally a pro would pull out the rotary for scratches like that. You can't go much more aggressive in terms of the pad you are using on your PC, so you will need to use a more aggressive product. You can try M105 on speed 6. You will likely need several applications even with M105 using the PC. I recommend using the "Kevin Brown Method" to get the best results.

Also plan to follow 105 with a softer pad and milder product such as M205 or SwirlX as the 105 may leave micro marring.

      Good luck

I'm not too familiar with LC pads, but one thing I would suggest is starting with your DA on speed 5, and then do about 6-7 passes of UC (but make sure the product doesn't dry up) Wipe it clean and then see if it needs another application.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

        I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
        Remove swirls my friends.

            Yeah, speed 1 wont help.

Make sure you have a black line on your pad so you can easily see that it is still spinning at all times.
