  • When to replace clay bar?

Are there particular indicators when its time to replace your clay? Do signs include gritty feel, clay sticking to hands, starting to disintegrate and performance loss(clay not tacky enough to clean)? Thanks

When it starts desintegrates is time to change. When you see its too dark.. If you dropped it unintentionally, its time to change.

When you can see the contaminants its time to change i mean, when it turns gray and when you rub you hand against it and feel the contaminants. You must change it.

It can be a bit subjective.

Falling apart is not a good sign....

I always try to make the clay a flat 'pancake', then use one side, and fold the dirty side in, and have clean clay on the outside. Then make flat again. When the 'new flat' piece starts to look dirty/gritty, it is probably a good time to use the clay for wheels/exhaust.

I cut my clay bar in two, used one portion to clay my car once.

I can already see the difference.

The used one is darker, much darker ..

If the clay feels gritty, it's game over. Clay should never feel gritty prior to being used on paint. Gritty clay is well, well past it's useful life on paint.

Gritty clay can prolly be useful for other things besides paint.

Feels gritty, when finished kneading the clay can not find a clean side, after you drop it, when it starts falling apart. Replace.
