  • Removing Mild Scratches on Windscreen

Last night after claying and polishing my front windscreen, I start to notice there's a small patch of mild scratches on my windscreen. It's too mild to be felt by fingernails, but obvious enough when I shine my torch light onto the glass. I believe this is done when I tried to remove bird droppings on it without using sufficient amount of water. It's really annoying, and I wish to remove these scratches on my windscreen. Is it possible if I use...

    All Metal Polish

I've tried Scratch-X, but it doesn't work at all. The claybar which I used is quite clean, I hope it's not done by the clay bar since there's only a small patch on the whole windscreen. Thanks a million!

When you say, windscreen, you do mean your car's glass windshield?

If so, then check out this thread,

    Windshield Scratches

Here's my post from that thread,

The only product out on the market that I know for removing light scratches in glass is made by the Eastwood company.

Glass Polishing Kit at the Eastwood company

    Hope this helps...

Thanks Mike, I don't think I can get Eastwood products here. I just tried using PC with #83 to polish (4 passes) that glass area, and it does round off the mild scratches edges. Hence, it's not so obvious now, but still the scratches are there. I guess I have to live with it.

        Hi zey

Just to side track, may I know what PC you are using?

Hey sky8811, my Singaporean friend, I'm using DeWALT DW443. Just using PC as a 'standard' ROB term...

            Hey Zey,

Removing scratches from glass is very difficult. As Mike suggested, the Eastwood Company does make a glass kit. However since it may not be available in your area, the only other suggestion may be to visit a glass shop and see if they have anything to help you.

            Please keep us posted!

Last night, I tried using a piece of polishing cloth with All Metal Polish with elbow grease to rub on the windscreen, and it doesn't help much. Instead, I noticed it created some very mild scratches. I guess the only way I could do is still by using #83 with PC, slowly do a few more passes to further reduce the scratches visibility. Will report more later...

p.s. It's really PITA to drive at night with the scratches right in front of my eyes...

                  Hey,

You can try the #83... . Maybe it will be enough.

To polish glass you really need Cerium oxide. Hence the reason I suggested you go to a glass shop.

Let us know how it turns out!!
