  • 1969 Road Runner

I have a 69 Road Runner that I am restoring and I have a few questions. It is a very original 383 4-speed Jamaica Blue car with a black vinyl top. I am having the vinyl top taken off and the whole car painted blue. I see some Road Runners with just the hood louvers painted black and the rest of the hood painted the same color as the car and I see others with the wide black stripe on the hood. Which is correct and how wide is each of the two stripes? Also, what color is the insert in the hood louver suppose to be? I see red, black, silver (no paint) etc. Where is a good reasonable place to get parts? Thanks in advance for your help. Bruce

I think you might get some good responses if your try autofourms.com.
Ask in the Muscle Car forum or the Plymouth forum. Once you get it painted, come back and we will help you keep the paint like new.
    Nice car.

The original 1969 Plymouth Road Runner had the louvered hood as you describe but all came with the wide flat black stripes. The correct paint was Ditzler DDL-9355, (Black Organosol).

The stripe itself starts at the A-Post even with the edge of the cowl. It runs in a perfectly straight line the entire length of the fender then curls over the front edge.

The most important part is getting the center gap correct. The gap measures 11 1/4 inches wide evenly spaced off the centerline of the hood. The air scoops were also painted black to match. If the car was is equipped with the air grabber option then the grill mesh material within the scoops were painted Rally red.

      Hope this helps!
