  • Will swirls or scratches come back?

I am looking into having a black car that I bought used with swirls/spider webs and some minor scratches from previous car washing and I have looked into getting it professionally done. They are going to use m105 then m205. Other than it getting scratched/swirled later, will the origional ones come back after washing etc? Those arent fillers right? I want them to be gone and so I can maintain a beautiful finish.

If the swirls and scratches are removed, they will not come back on their own. If they are simply hidden, they will come back. 105 & 205 will not hide the swirls, they will remove them if they are used properly, so you should be all set in that regard.

Assuming the professional uses them properly, they will be gone.

You should find out more about what pads, machines, etc he may be using.

Here is a link to a write up he did on atuopia. He has others on there, this was just a severe one he did and I think it turned out great.

I was wondering how much to put on my hands, i know it says a little bit, but how much is a little bit? and once i get the correct ammount on my hands how far can i strech it? quarter the car? half the car? or the whole thing? thanks for the help in advance!

Oh, and would there be any advantage to following up 205 with #7 or would it look just as good to use sealant/wax after 205 on a newer car?

            He looks pretty solid.

Just have to learn all the proper washng, etc to keep it that way after.

#7 may help the looks, hard to say. Probably something more fun to do yourself on your next little detail than to worry about paying for.

He definitely looks like he knows what he is doing.

                  As far as maintaining it...

The first time you take it through a car wash or you hand wash it incorrectly, you will create new swirls and scratches. The ones that are currently on the car will be buffed out and removed after the detail.

It is vital that you use a high quality car wash like, "Meguiars Ultimate Wash And Wax."

                  You also will want:

                  2 Five Gallon Buckets
                  2 Grit Guard Inserts
                  Multiple Microfiber Wash Mitts
Multiple Microfiber or waffle weave drying towels

Not sure if you are interesting in waxing/polishing yourself down the road so I will skip that, but I also recommend a quick detailer such as UQD or Mother's Instant Detailer. Go ahead and stock up on some Meguiars Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels as well. There are endless tire shine products on the shelves. Your best bet will be Meguiars Hot Rim Tire Gel Kit.

I could go on, but don't want to overwhelm you

Re: Will swirls or scratches come back?

If the detail is done right they will not come back. Now about your washing and maintenance technique. This is were you could induce new swirls.

I already have everything you mentioned except meguiars ww towels and the grit guards, I just lay the mitt over the side of the bucket. My favorite car wash IS the ultimate wash & wax. It leaves it soft and slick. My appointment is next saturday (june 19) so I have to wait a week. I can hardly wait.
