  • Fresh paint job, have a few questions

Hi, I'm just finishing up the reassembly of my truck after painting it two weeks ago, I have a few questions regarding caring for the new paint job....I don't have a body shop to ask these questions, as it was done by me and my cousin.

We wetsanded and buffed the truck, it has some swirlmarks in the clearcoat-is it safe to use SwirlX on paint that is only a couple of weeks old?

When will I be able to wash the truck (by hand w/low water pressure)? I know that some car soaps contain a wax--is there a particular soap that I would be better off using?

My 90 day window before waxing won't be up before the Carlisle All-Truck Nats, I've heard that Meguiars No.7 is what I want to use to really get it shining--just making sure this is safe on fresh paint.

The paint is base/clear RM Diamont Porsche Riviera Blue. The weather has been in the 70's since we painted.

    Thanks for your help!!

Is it oven finished or just open air? I wouldn't use machine if it's not oven finish, afraid the paint is still soft and heat build up from machine could peel it away. As far as product, i think any meguiars product with body shop safe label are ok, and i believe swirl-x is, forgot about #7 though, but you can check the label on the bottle

Yes, SwirlX would be safe to use. Of course do a small test spot first, to make sure it isnt too strong, etc. #80 is always a good option for fresh paint.

You can use any of the Meguiars soaps except for Ultimate Wash and Wax.

Yes, #7 is also fresh paint safe.

Swirlx is not body shop safe so I would not use it on the finish yet. They reccommend waiting about a 1-3 months after getting a repaint so I would say to go with a body shop safe product for a little bit. I am looking for the thread that has all the Meguiars products and whether they are body shop safe but I can not find it right now.

It may not be body shop safe but he's not working in a body shop so he can use it.

But you do not know if the paint is cured yet. I don't know if a few weeks is enough time for paint to cure.
