  • Bugs and road stuff

AHHH!! It's been so long since I've been on this forum! Work, school, and girlfriend taking my time! Haha. Unfortunately though, all 3 of those is more important than my car's finish.

Anyway, here's my question: Went on my first road-trip with this car to Las Vegas. With that, came BUGS! I just washed my car and there are still plenty of bug residue and stuff on the hood and front of the car. What can I use to get this off? Does Meguiar's make a bug/tar removal product or something that I can use as such? Will APC work? Thanks.

Meguiars makes a Bug and Tar, could certainly try APC, even Dawn. I think dryer sheets may also help.

Can kind of wet some paper towels and soak them with the Dawn, or a little of the APC, and put it over the splatter to help loosen things up.

Can always clay and paint clean after. Have had #105 gently applied remove a good bit of gunk before.

Meguiar's Detailer line has a product called "Body Solvent" which is a higher strength version of the consumer bug & tar remover.

I've used Body Solvent on some really tough tar stains and it performed noticeably better than the consumer stuff.

Let the Body Solvent dwell, then go over the areas with soap and water and a bug sponge.

With the dryer sheet, you have to wet it first. Then scrub the bugs. Then rinse it clean. Then you will have to re apply your wax.

You will have to re wax after the body solvent, or bug and tar remover.

You will be surprised how effective they work. I know I was the first time.

Is it better than the Super Degreaser for tar?

Mineral Spirits...dab some on a rag and gently go over the spot. Use some spray wax on the area afterwards since the mineral spirits probably will remove the wax that was there before. Works fantastic on tar and should be great on bug goop too.
