  • "Old" Products vs. "New" Products

I haven't had the chance to really compare the old stuff -- #83, #80 and #9 -- to the new -- Ulimate Compound, SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0. Since I retired my truck has become a "boderline garage queen" and ColorX and or NXT 2.0 have been all that I have needed to use to keep it looking darn good. I have all of these products available.

I'm packing up to head to Minneapolis to visit my daughter and I plan to detail her year old Subaru. I detailed it about nine months ago. It should be in pretty good shape. It is garaged every night and is parked in a parking garage during the day. Because it is washed infrequently there is probably very little marring. She uses only brushless car washes when she does wash it.

After I clay and polish her "Subbie", I'll apply ColorX and if there is time a coat of NXT 2.0.

My question: The new products should "git-r'-done" as well as the old standards, right?

Re: "Old" Products vs. "New" Products

Both sets of products should be capable of handling things, depending on how severe the defects are. While Ultimate Compound has more cutting ability than any of the three "old" products you mentioned, it does not have the polishing oil content of M80 or even M83. If you have the time it might be interesting for you to do a side by side comparison of the "old" and "new" and look for things like cutting speed, clarity of finish, depth of color and gloss, etc.

While, technically, they all do the same thing, they all do that thing in slightly different ways. Because of this, different paint systems can respond better to one or the other.

What the heck. It's only three more bottles to throw in the tub. That said -- clay and ColorX may be enough. My daughter's Subaru is two shades of silver. It's hard to see much of anything wrong with the finish.
