Can you ruin a finish using ultimate compound if it does not need it?

Not really with the right technique and applicator....

However, if use use poor quality, incorrect or dirty applicator, that could scratch and / or create swirls in a good finish... It is not the UC, but the applicator creating marks....

You probably would not want repeated unnecessary uses over a longer period of time.

Should have a milder product for regular detailing.

All my local dealer has is scratch x, ultra coumpund, and the wax/cleaner.

Yeah, almost impossible to find all your products in one store unfortunately.

Kmart, Target type stores are options. And ADS as mentioned before.

If you mean the Cleaner/Wax in the red bottle, that is a good product for a regular quick detail. It is very mild, and wont remove defects. But a lot of us like to use a cleaner/wax type product followed by a coat of regular wax for a quick detail.
