  • Best sun protection possible?

I am moving to Tempe, Arizona next month and I unfortunately will not have a garage to park my '87 Mercedes 260E in. The paint is black and as of right now looks beautiful.

I do not want sun damage to start fading the paint...I'm going to attempt to get a covered parking spot, but if not possible I want to be prepared with my backup ideas.

    1) Car cover as much as possible?
---1a) What car cover would be best to protect from the sun?
    2) Products
    ---2a) On time washing/waxing/detailing
---2b) What products are THE BEST to protect from the sun?

I understand damage is going to happen...so I am not naive. I just want to minimize it as much as possible

    Thanks,

Is it a daily driver? May not want a cover if it is. But can look at Covercraft covers for good quality.

The best sun protection for paint will be polishing oils to keep the paint nourished, and keeping it healthy to protect itself.

Can you recommend a product? I've been very, very happy with all my Meguiars products, so would love to stick with them

        Re: Best sun protection possible?

Which ones do you have now?

A good wash and clay, and then a mild paint cleaner for regular cleaning (DC1, SwirlX, etc).

Deep Crystal Polish is easy to use, and #7 is pretty top of the line.

And then your favorite wax, probably Nxt 2.0 or #21 2.0 for best protection.

Start with a cleaner DC1, SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0, or Ultimate Compound according to the severity of your paint issues.

I would agree with the polishing oil idea and also recommend DC2, M05 or M07. M80 be just the ticket for you, actually, as it has plenty of polishing oils and diminishing abrasives.

Lock all your hard work in with the most resilient LSP you can find: Collinite 476s, 3M Performance Finish, NXT 2.0 or Gold Class Plus.

Since I have the car waxed already with NXT 2.0, will I need to remove the wax, polish, then rewax?

              Re: Best sun protection possible?

Why not use spray wax instead of doing all the other stuff?
It takes something lke 15minutes to wax the whole car with spray wax and it surely protects the car better than just the "Pure polish".

When you notice the paint is loosing gloss then you can rewash it, clean the paint and reapply NXT wax on it and after that the spray wax once in a while.
But as said, i think the best way to protect it is with a cover

              cheers!

Dont need to detail the car to go there.. Can wait till you are there and re-detail.

NXT Tech Wax 2.0 is our longest lasting, best protecting wax/sealant (technically it is a 100% synthetic product) so that would be your best choice for regular waxing. Our Ultimate Quik Wax contains some remarkably durable polymers that will add a surprising level of added protection when used between proper waxing. It's also great to use immediately after washing and drying your car, or during the drying process itself.

Sorry to highjack the thread, but I've a couple of times that NXT is the best protectant, is it really any better than 21?

From what I understand they are virtually the same product with the exception that #21 (professional version) is formulated to handle rotary application as well as hand application. NXT is the consumer equivalent and is for hand applications.

I'm not sure about sun protection, but covers made from the evolution 3 fabric are supposed to be good.
