  • Which Foam Pad

    Hi guys,

I was wondering, which foam pad I would need to correct the holograms on my car. I want to make only one order cause shipping is pretty expensive to Canada.

I want to correct the swirls on my car, and if I have successful results, I will do my friend Black Lancer which is pretty badly scratched.

Also, Will M205 correct my holograms leaving a nice finish, swirl free? On a black car, or would I need something else for the finishing step?. I plan to order a bottle of M105 and M205 (M105 will mostly be for my friend car's)

Both jobs will be done using a DA

Here are pictures of my 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt's hood. They are not the greatest pictures but its better then nothing! (what you can see on the second pictures, is just some dust, no big deal.)

No reason why the Meguiars Polishing pad would do the job with M205 or M105 just keep the speed between 4-5 and apply some pressure.

After your done with everything go over the entire car with M205 on a finishing pad in speed 3-4.

You should get Polishing and Finishing pads.

      Thanks Ryan,

Polishing and Finishing, I'll keep that in mind. Also which backing plate size would you recommend? I need to buy one.

You dont have a backing plate? If you have the 5.5" backing plate that should would ok with the new Soft Buff 2.0 (machine washable ) but this pads would work better with the W68DA because this will make the centering more easy and also its perfect for contouring the car in small places.

        best Regards,

          thanks again Ryan!

Would this be a good kit to detail my 09 Black Cobalt? And keep some stuff on the shelf!

            Re: Which Foam Pad

Yes, thats a good combo, but why you preffer LC pads? Its just to know they will be ok for your correction. Also why didnt you picked this 6 pack of LC CCS 5.5" pads, they give you a free one .

I think i would go like this,
            -RED x1
            -WHITE x1
            -ORANGE x2
            -GREEN x2

So this way you will have a pad to remove the defects, another one to give color depth to the paint, and youll have to polish the paint to a high shine when working with M205 and youll have one to apply that M07 i see your buying.

Thats IMO, you dont need to listen to me .
            Hope i helped.

            PS.
LC pads since they have holes in the pad this produces less heat and makes the process safer but it takes longer to achieve the result you want to get. So just for you to know.

Hey DgenerationX, Your subtotal is $139.95 and you're already paying $27.50 for shipping. Just add another item worth $10.05 (Maybe 1 or 2 more LC 5.5" pads or the Meg's soft buff pads) and you'll get free shipping!!! So you'll pay less and get more items! Can't beat that.

                Re: Which Foam Pad

The Meguiar's 2.0 pads are machine washable. I usually end up throwing out pads I get, which aren't machine washable.

Finally, you wouldn't *have* to get #7. M205 while different, will leave a nice finish.

Your car is also fairly new, so a pure polish like #7 has less benefit, but I can tell you, it does still add brilliance and depth, but just saying you wouldn't have to do it, and it adds more work.

                  Re: Which Foam Pad

I don't think you really need 64 oz of M07 for one car. That is a lot of product and remember that you are only using a small amount for one car.

You could try picking up a bottle of M20, a sampler of D151, sampler of M66, or even a few samples to see what you like. That's another awesome thing about ADS, you can pick up samples instead of heading straight for the gallons or 32 oz bottles.

Yes, this was a GREAT point. My little 16 oz bottle of M07 I've had a long time, and it gets a bit crusty, so better not to get a big bottle.

Alright guys, I picked the big bottle cause I tought there wasnt much of a difference in the price from the 16 oz bottle. I'll also check for Megs washable foam pads instead of the LCs. Also the free shipping doesnt apply to Canada if I remember correctly.

                      Thanks for the infos!

                        Hey DX,

Here is the Link for the ADS weekly special for the 6+1 pads combo. I would go with 4 Polishing pads and 3 finishing pads.

                        Enjoy,

here is something from ADS shipping info "All shopping cart orders are limited to UPS ground service in the continental 48 United States."

                        Hope that helped.
Too bad you cant get free shipping.

Is possible that ADS doesnt ship to Canada? I tried to check out to simulate an order to check the shipping cost, and it says it can't ship to my adress... probably cause it's in Canada I guess???
