I have a 1990 Mustang that was repainted about 6 years ago. Last year cats got on my car and would lay on it. I did not notice until later that there are scratches in several places where they would slide off. Is this hopeless? What do I need to remove them and how do I do it without damaging the paint?

Re: Cat scratches
First off, welcome to MOL.
As for the scratches, are they down to the primer, can you feel them with your fingernail, or are they only noticeable in certain types of light? If you need to hunt for them then you should be able to get them out with something like ScratchX 2.0 or Ultimate Compound. If you can feel them you can probably minimize the appearance of them with the same products but to remove them completely may be unsafe as you'd have to remove too much paint. If you're down to the primer then you're basically out of luck as too much paint is missing and the area will need a respray.Michael Stoops

Re: Cat scratches
Finger Nail test is always the best. If you can feel it, your SOL. If like Michael said that you can only see them when the light hits them from a certain angle then you should be able to have them buffed out completely or 95% in a matter of an hour (depending on the area were talking about).

They are visible in different light.
I am wanting to learn how to buff and detail my own car. I appreciate any help!
#80 is Megs speed glaze in the professional line. It's a cleaner/polish rated at 4 on the cut scale.Black......the ONLY color!

Re: Cat scratches
No. Show Car Glaze is a pure polish, meaning it contains no abrasives of any sort so it won't take down the surrounding material to remove the scratches. Your best bet is probably Ultimate Compound in this situation, applied either by hand or with your orbital.Michael Stoops
