  • Haloing in paint reflection after swirlX

Hey guys, so I clayed an entire panel and taped off half of it, and used swirlX on one half. It did a real good job of getting the swirls out, but the side with the swirlX also is showing halos/hazing now (you can really see it around lights in the reflection), it's really apparent when comparing the sides.

I thoguht it might have just been residual swirlX on the surface but I went over it with quik detailer and the haloing is still there. I dont want to just wax it cause I dont want to "lock in" the halos. Is this normal? How do I get rid of it.

By hand or by machine? If by machine, did you use a rotary or DA? Also, what speed settings and foam pads did you use?

No it was just by hand. Could it be cause I was moving my hand too fast? I had to work it in real hard and go over the same section 3 or 4 times to get the swirling out. I think this also might have caused micromarring/hazing. Any hints on how to get the hazing out now?

I want to get rid of the hazing before waxing

          Hi there, Chris!

You can stay with your Swirl X. Start anew on the same area with a clean foam applicator, but this time apply less and less pressure on each new application or pass. It should eventually "burnish" out all of your imperfections.

If you really wanna go all out, then apply #7, then NXT 2.0. A darker color such as red, cobalt blue and the like will also respond very, very favorably to a final coat of a pure carnauba. Maybe Meg's #26. Lighter colors don't really gain much depth from the addition of the carnauba.

On dark colors, the carnauba reduces the "plastic" look, and instills a great deal of depth and shape to the vehicle. It's particularly pronounced with such things as sky and tree reflections.

Did you use a cotton terry towel by any chance?

If SwirlX is marring/hazing his finish, why step it up to the more aggressive Ultimate Compound?

I'd go with RGP's suggestion. Failing that, you might need to try a less aggressive product.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
