  • How can I get hairspray stain out of black leather seats

I went on a business trip leaving from Seattle in May (i.e., it's not hot there yet) and realized that I had a too-large bottle of Paul Mitchell Fast Drying Sculpting Spray (hairspray) in my purse that would get thrown away at TSA station. Just before I got out of my car at the airport parking place, I laid the bottle on top of a paperback book on the passenger side of my car. When I returned (about 5 days later), the bottle had leaked and left a stain in the seat where the flat part (the seat) meets the vertical part (back support), all the way across the seat. The seats are black leather. I took it to a detailer that the Ferrari dealer recommended, but he could not get it out. I bought Meguiar's products (leather cleaner that has the word "Gold" in the name) but I still could not remove the stain. (For the record, the car is a Saturn Sky, not a Ferrari.......figured if anyone knew who could be trusted to get stains out of expensive leather, they would know. Au contraire......)

Does anyone have any suggestions (Other than don't ever leave a bottle of anything on a car seat....) on how to get it out?

    Thanks!

You may have to have the leather dyed if the stain won't come out. A good leather repaier can do this for you.

Hairspray contains alcohol, which has probably compromised the urethane seat covering and released the pigmentation, causing a ‘stain’. Replacing the pigmentation and repairing the urethane would be one solution

Ferrari upholstery is natural (uncovered) leather; it's cleaning and care is very different from covered upholstery.

Thanks for the suggestions. I plan to call a specialist as recommended - just thought someone might have a quick-fix.....

BTW, I have no idea what kind of seats are in a Ferrari and I'm quite certain that I will never know from personal experienc. I just figured that they would not refer me to some fly-by-night bozo that would rip me off!
