New Restoration and Paint - Swirls -What to Do?

Just finished 1954 MG TF with very dark green paint - Base coat covered with clear. Painted 8 months ago and sitting. Want to start it right.

How to wash fine dust off? Have heard can just use Meguiars Quick Detailer, no water needed. True?

I already have fine scratches or swirls. How to remove? See there is Swirl X and also Number 9 swirl remover - Right products and what is difference?

Finally, what is the best wax to start using?

What to apply and remove with and use with Swirl remover. I see there are many microfibers for sale, which to use?

Oh, and finally - when by hand, use in a circular manner or a straight back and forth?

Reading through the 5 Step Paint Care Cycle that yalerd linked to will be a huge help to you.

For routine wipe downs just to remove light dust, Ultimate Quik Detailer and a couple of Supreme Shine Microfiber towels will do the trick. We can only assume that a '54 TC isn't going to be your daily driver so you can likely get away without fully washing it for quite some time. But do not skimp on the microfiber towels when doing this process and you'll be fine.

As for removal of the fine swirls, you can go with either SwirlX (mild) or Ultimate Compound (more aggressive) to remove them by hand. How hard the paint is will play a big role in this process, just so you know.

Even though this car has a new base/clear paint system on it, given that it's such a dark color and that you'll want to keep it looking its absolute best all the time, we would recommend using either Deep Crystal Polish or M07 Show Car Glaze after removing the fine defects, and then topping it with either NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 or M26 High Tech Yellow Wax. NXT is a purely synthetic product that offers our best and longest lasting protection. M26 is a bit more of an "old school" carnauba product that gives a deep, wet shine especially on darker colors. It dates back a couple of decades at least, and coupling it with M07 is still a hugely popular combination.
