  • Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner & ColorX = swirls?

Hey guys so I clayed part of my car the other day then proceded to use some deep crystal paint cleaner followed by colorX. With the paint cleaner I used a cotton applicator pad and worked it into the paint real good, with the colorX I used a foam pad and worked that it real good too.

I noticed more swirls in the paint now in the sun at certain angles. I know it's from this cause there aren't more swirls where I didn't use the products. What could this be from? People here told me the paint cleaner and colorX are safe from this happening. Is it cause I didn't clean the applicator pads? The cotton pad used for the paint cleaner was brand new. The foam pad used for the colorX had previously been used with colorX.

By cotton do you mean terry cloth?

It may have been the applicator you used.

I have a thing of SwirlX, I'm gonna tape off a small section and see if I can get rid of the swirls maybe this weekend.

Just strange how I got those new swirls. This happened to me last time I tried to use deep crystal paint cleaner too, but that time I was using a mesh-covered pad so I thought that caused the swirling.

This time I used a cotton pad, the only thing is I noticed it was getting a little dirty towards the end and I didn't clean it just kept adding more paint cleaner to it. But I had just clayed before that so I can't imagine anything would be there to cause swirling.

Cotton terry application by hand with the cleaner is an aggressive method of polishing/buffing. You may have to go back to the paint cleaner to remove the marring, but instead, use the foam pad to work the finish. That might remove the marring.

Terry ( and certainly mesh) are naturally very agressive.

I always have the best luck with smooth foam.

Generally you would use terry for serious defects, and with the understanding it may need followed up milder after.

Try the swirl-x with a foam applicator. Try a test spot over the area you have already worked. See if there is a noticeable improvement. There should be.
