it's normal for some paint to come off right? But won't that make the paint dull in the future?

SS paint can appear dull or hazy when it oxidizes, that is, if left unprotected, (no sealant/wax) the paint itself is exposed to air and moisture for a length of time. Buffing paint will remove oxidation (if any) and level the surface, thus revealing a fresh, scratch/swirl free finish. Buffing is what ultimately creates a brilliant finish, reflection and shine. Megs pure polish can add the ultimate gloss to a properly cleaned/buffed finish, and leave a show car finish.

When you use a cleaner, some paint comes off. On CC paint, it is clear, so you cant see it. On SS paint, you will see the color of the paint.

It can happen with wax, but is more more rare. Much more with cleaners.

But it is normal.

So when the paint come off on my applicator does it mean that I need to buy another applicator? Cause I'm planning to use wax cleaner on the entire car? Or will it damage the paint if I continue to use the same applicator that has paint on it, cause I need to know before I start so I can have the stuff I need to get the job done right, thanks again guys

I started detailing years ago, after SS paint was no longer the norm, so I can't say for sure, but with CC paint, I will use one applicator for the entire car with no ill effects. It (CC) will not transfer back onto the finish, or damage the paint. The amount of paint transfer onto the applicator is very minute. The minute amount of paint is blended into the cleaner, onto your foam hand applicator, then subsequently wiped off. If you're getting a lot of transfer, yes, you could use two applicators.

I get paint transfer when I rub the paint on my car, but it is CC.

Murr will prolly chime in, but I would say you won't experience any ill effects.

You can wash your applicator after using it, the transfer should come off. And even a little staining should cause no problems.

However, during the actual detail, you will want at least one applicator per product.

I will use one applicator for the entire car with no ill effects.

Just to clarify...


One applicator per product. I apply paint cleaners with velcro backed foam pads, and use the small, round foam hand applicators for wax.

Ok guys, I finish waxing my car today but i didn't take any pictures, but how do you store the wax applicator after your done, do you just leave it in the cap with the plastic thing covering it? And how about the towel that I used to take off the wax do I just wash it after I'm done? And how do i was it cause I threw my towel wrap thing away already so I can't read it, and it is a meguiars towel, and wax, thanks guys

Who cares, did it turn out well?

Anyway, I soak the applicators in a bucket of soapy water, then rinse out. I store them covered, but in an open container so to speak, not sealed up.

The towels you can wash. Do MF's seperate from terry cloth. Then just fold and store.

Yes it turned out great, I'm uploading pictures to photobucket as I type this picture should be up within the hour, it doesn't look bad for a 21 year old paint job
