  • #66 - removing?

    Hi everyone!

How can I remove #66 (Quik Detailer) from my car? A friend decided to help me clean my bonnet by applying #66 to my car which wasn't that clean, did a shoddy buff job (part hand part rotary) and it's left a lot of 'dull' looking patches on my bonnet.

All I've used is Deep Crystal Carwash (that's all I have) which has removed a lot, but not all of it.

Is there any product around that will remove it safely without cutting?

    Cheers

You mean the product is still dried on your car? Try getting the specific are clean then with a microfiber, or if you don't have one, a 100% cotton terry towel, and rub and see if it comes off. If it was let dry a long time it will be difficult to remove.
    Later,
    Ricky

        First off hi there

"How can I remove #66 (Quik Detailer) from my car?"

I'd try a paint cleaner like DC step 1 or MPPC. The only problem is when the residual #66 is removed with the cleaner so will the #66 that has bonded to the surface that is providing the protection. The surface will then need to have wax re applied.

Another option would be to try a spritz of Quik Detailer spray. This is a different product than the #66 Quick detail wax.

Still yet another option would be to apply another coat of #66 and remove. This should reactivate the #66 residue and aid in removal of the residue.

        Good luck.

Rubbing alcohol should remove it and any other wax that is on your paint, be sure to wax after.

            Hi kid_dynamite,

Sorry to hear of the mishap

There's an old saying goes something like this,

            "Like dissolves like"

            (Or something similar?)

The first thing I would try would be to apply some more #66 using a soft, clean piece of terry cloth towel. Use an abundant amount of the #66 Quick Detailer. Two things should happen,

            1) An abundant amount of liquid #66 wax will on the surface helping to re-liquefy, loosen and remove the previously applied #66

            2) The nap of the terry cloth, (the little cotton loops), will act as a very gentle form of an abrasive. When pushed against and over the old dried wax, together with the liquid #66 should slice into the layer of dried #66 helping to break it up.

Only work a small section at a time so that you can focus your attention and efforts to that section. As you loosen and remove the existing dried wax to the point that you are satisfied, give that area a final wipe with a new, clean towel and a mist of a quick detailer.

            Hope that helps...

Maybe a dumb question, but did your friend work the product properly? I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I went through a gallon of this stuff, and what I found is that the product needs to be broken down properly(all the abrassives), and then let dry to a haze, like you would a LSP. It then wipes off really easily. If you try to wipe it off while it's wet it's really streaky and messy, so I would take Mike's advice and reapply the #66, using not too much product, work it in thoroughly, let it haze(use the swipe test), and then remove. Should work wonders

Try any kind of cleaner wax. I had the same problem once, except clay didn't work. So if all else fails, try the cleaner wax and see what happens... dissolved everything for me.

                  Hey,

Since #66 Quick Detailer is a cleaner/wax (not to be confused with Quik Detailer (no "C" in Quik) which is a QD for wiping off finger prints etc...), I would also suggest following Mike's advice and re-applying the #66. As well, gbackus
is right on when he says that #66 needs to be worked in thoroughly!

Thanks for the advice. I followed Mike's tips and managed to get it off!
I think next time I'll do it myself.
