I am getting ready to take some of the scratches out of my Corian kitchen counter tops. The installers had said to use a 3M sponge and baking soda to remove scratches. I thought that maybe using my Porter Cable and meguiar's pads might be a lot faster, so thought I would ask if anyone has tried this on Corian. If so, what pads/products/rpm settings did you use? Or is this whole idea a disaster waiting to happen?

Hehe, I knew this was going to come up again. For the corian I should mention the 83 really didn't do a whole lot more than make the counter tops glossy again. If your looking to remove scratches you'll probably need to step up to something more aggressive like compound power cleaner on a cutting pad. Next time I do mine I was planning on getting a little bit more aggressive with it and see what I could do with the scratches. I've been told that if you need to you can even sand the corian and buff it out.
Ohh, I used 1800 rpm I think. I don't think your going to be able to burn corian so if more speed is needed I don't think it would be a problem.Later,
Ricky

What's the old saying, "To a man with a hammer all the world's problems look like a nail"?
It seems like to a person with some Maguiar's, all the world looks like it needs a good shine
I wonder what a G-100 and some ColorX could do to a tile shower? Will this sickness never end?Last edited by RickRS; Dec 30, 2004, 07:26 AM.

Well, I gave it a shot. The results:
As you should see, ColorX on the right, untouched tile on the left.
The ColorX cut the soap scum very well! This is ceramic tile in a shower stall. The house was built 1972, the soap scum was undentable with your standard bathroom cleaners. I don't have hard water, so this would appear to be your standard issue soap scum, just years worth.
I did this with my new PorterCable 7424 and the PC pad that comes with it. Just horsing around until my Meguiar pad set comes UPS. No local paint and body supply house carries Meguiar pads in 6 inch.
Warning!! Don't try this in a wet environment! If you want to do this, be sure the stall/bath is dry, use a GFI equipped wall socket for protection. Remember, water and electricity is a dangerous combination! It's not my fault if you get an electrical shock! Not responsible for your death or injuries! Just use some common sense, ok.Last edited by RickRS; Dec 31, 2004, 07:24 AM.
