  • Finishing Polish?

I heard that sometimes if you finish with M205 on soft paints it still might leave swirls and that some people use 85rd. I don't have 85rd, but I do have the old version of Scratch X. I think Scratch X is less abrasive than M205 so would it be okay to go over the car with Scratch X on a DA after M205 to leave a better polish or finish? What would be the "aggressiveness" be on Meguiars scale from 1-12, any idea?

    Thanks.

Unless your going for showcar finish you can finish with 205 on a lake country black pad and be fine that's just my opinion

If it was needed, #9/#82 could be an option.

On very very soft paints, a cleaner/wax may be needed.

Original ScratchX is less abrasive than 205. It is kind of pricey to use ScratchX for anything but isolated scratches since it is sized so small, but if you don't have something like M80 you could try this.

What do you mean by this?

I just have scratchX laying around and I never use it so might as well I guess. I will only use it if 205 leave some marring though.

So you think cleaner wax would be better to use after 205 than scratchX?

            Re: Finishing Polish?

I sort of answered two different questions....

            1. No, you probably wont need anything. On most paints, #205 or SwirlX will finish out fine. Someone may use a pure polish for more oils, but not to clean up marring. So you could do that.

            2. If you need something after, you could go milder than #205 with a product like #9/#82.

If the paint is terribly soft, you may need to go to a cleaner/wax.

The original ScratchX would not be my prefered choice, if I needed/wanted something after.

              Re: Finishing Polish?

Well, I assumed that 205 would be fine, but someone had a S2000 with soft paint and said 205 left a haze and since I have a Honda I know how soft it is. Hopefully, 205 wont leave a haze and I won't need to use anything after that besides a sealant/wax.

If it does then I might get some 9 or 82, but I would rather not.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it
