  • What vacuum do you use?

    Hi guys,

Im tired of using my super duper small 1 gallon coleman 12 volts (the ones for cigarette lighter in cars) which has low suction power but still does the job.

So i decided to buy a new vacuum, but still i dont know how much power i need?, how big i need it to be(how many gallons)?, what is a good brand?, and also the most important thing CHEAP (not as cheap that doesnt work and will break in a month) but cheap as less than from $30-$50 maximum $60 shipped.

Would you guys tell me what is the vacuum you have?

Also if anyone is planning to sell one and help a fellow detailer from a foreign country (you would still ship to the US not DR) please let me know.

Have a great day you all.

This is the one i have:

I looked for that Rigid Shop vac. Here in DR you would get that vacuum for around $400 USD. Thats why i order my stuffs online and th oen bring it do DR makes it at least $60 cheaper.

      Any other vacuum?

Why so much power? and so much capacity?
Do you fill the 14 gallons with one car?

      Thanks in advance,
      Ryan.

I have two; a 5.5HP Shop Vac that rolls around, and a 3HP one that hangs on the wall in the garage/shop. Both do an excellent job.

I have just about worn out the 5.5HP vac though, so I may replace it with one of these Heavy Duty ones. No casters, but it seems like it would be a bit more stout, plus I've seen people make DIY extractors out of these ones:

Hey Freak (Ha-ha that sounded funny, no offeses),
when you mean you have worn out the 5.5HP vacuum you mean the outside or it doesnt have more suction power since its old or something?

If its working, and strong then its good for me , so i case you decide to sell it just let me know

Thanks for the recommendation, for how much can you get a heavy duty vacuum up in the US?

I wanted more power for extraction purposes. The volume just came with it. It is a very good unit.
The autobahn vacuum is also a good one. Nice power and the various attachments lets you get into every nook and cranny. Being wall mounted also helps on saving space.

House central vac. It can "extract" the color out of fabric if you let it. LOL

I have a 18 gallon 3.5 HP Craftsman that I bought about 35 years ago it is still working fine.
It is a wet or dry and I have used it several times to pump water that is when the bigger tank comes in handy.

The cheaper ones will be made in China and will not last.

Well, lets just say that every time I shut it off, the motor wines/grinds like it's about to seize up. The suction isn't too bad yet, but it's nowhere near what it used to be. Understandable though considering all the drywall and sawdust it has picked up in its life (it's been with me through several home renovation projects over the past few years).

The one I linked to goes for about $80 USD at Lowe's.

If all you're looking for is something cheap/basic, how about one of these bucket vacs? Just fits over the top of a 5 gallon pail: http://www.lowes.com/pd_49940-20097-6004511_0_?productId=3160385&Ntt=shop%20vac&Ntk=i_products&pl=1&currentURL=/pl__0__s?Ntk=i_products$rpp=15$No=45$Ntt=shop%20vac$identifier=

                        $20 USD

Re: What vacuum do you use?

I use a Craftsman Shop Vac. Here's a tip - get yourself a car care kit for your vacuum. The one I have comes with a long, thin extension hose that plugs right into the end of the Shop Vac hose, a mini crevice tool, mini brush and mini flat tool (don't know how to describe it). What's great is that the tools and hose are smaller than regular vacuum tools so it makes cleaning in tight spaces much, much easier.
Anybody can make a car look good with the right products.

                            Thank you all guys.

Now i know i need to buy a vacuum with over 2 HP to do a good Job.

I just spended $162 in some products so now im short in money. Only have arround $60 plus now comes the bad thing, arround 12 pounds ill have to pay $47 to get it from the courier which would make a total of $100+ .

But ill see what i can do.

A quick question, if im traveling by plane from the US to DR, can i bring a BOX instead of a suitcase? My little brother is coming for summer so im planning to tell him to bring it for me.

It'll probably be cheaper to ship it UPS....
