  • Going to try it again this week!

I have watched the movie that mike has out and learned a few things, now its time to see what i have learned.

He makes it look so damn easy! I think if I just use smaller area's and not making the pad saturated. I have to get results right. Keeping the right pressure on the whole car is another issue.

The one thing I didnt really get a answer on mikes movie was the amount of product to use.

It has been talked here about putting a thin layer on the pad first. Spreading it out so its "primed" I didnt see mike do that. He just put a circle of product on the pad and went to it. I didnt see him cleaning the pad on the fly much either.. Unless those parts were cut out?

This question has been asked before but.. If that car takes me more then a full day of detailing.. I am not doing something right? or am I spending to much time. How long should a 12 X 12 square take to do?

That all depends on what your doing. Im guessing your using a DA. Are you removing swirls? if so how bad and deep are they. How soft/hard is your paint. What products are you using?. what pads?. If you have just basic swirls that your correcting I would say some SwirlX or ultimate compound and a 12X12 should be about 2-3 maybe even 4 passes just depends on your paint. (5 min)

This car has never been detailed before (Saturn '07) Using ultimate compond with the DA. Will be using 6.5 polishing pad. Not sure how hard the paint will be. It has swirls and a dull finish.

Putting a circle or a "X" in the pad and start working will do (links to this). Then you just put a couple of dots of products and continue working, remember that this video was done using a diminishing abrasive technology product. With the new SMAT products (non-diminishing abrasive), some like to massage product and fill pour with product (link to this method of pad priming)

How much product you put will be depend on how big of a area you work, I just put 3-4 dots of products and continue working (depending on the product I'm using as well) but I really like to work small.

And yes you should always clean your pad often and switch to a new pad from time to time

So, you only use the pad priming when you use polishes and waxes.

Do not prime when taking affects out?

Pad Priming, the second link that I posted, this method refers to Paint Compounds and Cleaners that have SMAT technology, it doesn't refer to waxes.

I just maintain the 'X' application in thinner lines as I move, and my pad is primed properly.
