I feel like there are some spots where NXT has a "deeper" finish than others. Looks kinda splotchy - Where did I go wrong?

(Hand Applied.... let set for ~20min - hand removed. )

Not quite brave enough to use my DA on my new truck yet - at least not without some new pads

Tried to go over it with Final Inspection...ran out...only had Quick Detailer left, so im leaving as-is until brighter ideas... lol

    Did you wash/clay/clean first?

How thin did you apply the coats?

Most likely the splotchy areas didnt dry long enough.

Did you shake the product before and during use. That and not letting the product dry long enough will do it.

As noted above, these things will definitely make any wax easier to apply and remove.

Read through How to tell if your wax is dry - The Swipe Test to make sure you're applying it in a properly thin coat, and letting it dry sufficiently. Drying time will be lengthened in temperatures below 60F, in high humidity, or by too heavy a coat. Combine any of those and dry time is just extended even more.

^ agreed with both. Doing enough shaking of the bottle and allowing enough time to dry is critical. I bet it did not dry enough.

What kind of towel are you using to knock off the wax and buff?? I noticed in certain lights I will miss sections even though I knocked of the 1st layer.

You need to practice using your eyes and given the condition such as sun light or halogens as they show everything.

For fixing the splotches, would a coat of UQD and/or UQW even everything out?

It should not, Unfortunately its made to be clear and wipe off cleanly. I would think you need to either clay bar it off or a light buff. To break down the difference in the level of wax on the panel.

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Sort of depends on how thick the wax was applied and how much too soon it was wiped off. Certainly worth a shot though.

Well, for me it had not but with that said with Mike, give it a shot. I used to do it too thick and had splotches. Once it cured, it was really tough to remove.

I shook the bottle on the first coat.... admittedly forgot on the second. Both coats were splotchy. I did the second coat figuring it would fill in the spots.

I did wash w/ Gold Class, no clay, no other "before" prep - brand new truck off the lot, and amazingly no dealer installed swirls, so it didnt need 80/83, ect - just wanted to get NXT on top of it to protect it ASAP!

Purely on that, I'd say prep may have been wanted and apply thin next time so it can fully dry easily.

I would say that the wax did not need 'filled in'. Rather the splotches are spots of too much wax. That is why hopefully a second coat dissolves and evens out the thick spots. (Like dissolves like.)

However, it doesnt always work, and if you really want it perfect right now, would probably need to start over with a clay and cleaner. Or at least cleaner/wax.

Murrr - What prep? I washed & went straight to NXT. I didnt need 80 or 83 - the finish was fantastic - it didnt need clay - finish was smooth as glass. Why do un-needed work & un-needed touching of the finish? The NXT did dry - it passed the swipe before I started to pull it off...

Well, just trying to cover all the possibilities.

Surface may not have been as perfect everywhere, or one spot may have passed the swipe test, but another area was a little thicker and hadnt dried yet.

A lot of people will swipe one spot on the car, and then start removing wax while the rest of the car isnt dried yet. And esp since NXt seems to dry slower, can be a bigger problem.

                              Hi,

Even though you are working on a brand new vehicle off the lot, there may be contaminents on the surface. Your truck was delivered to the dealership by truck, was even most likely been on a rail car of some sort, and sat on the lot for some time I'm sure. In my opinion, it would be worth it to clay or at least use a paint cleaner and then try the NXT again. Just want you to cover your bases.
