  • UC question...

So yesterday i used uc on my grand mas car. She backed out of the drive way and scraped her read end on the parked truck pretty bad. THere is a dent and the paint looked like ****. My question is when i was using UC it was a very slow proccess. It was on speed 6 with a yellow cutting pad and i noticed the paint was VERY hot. IS that bad? It came out really good though/ BTW, i was using a PC XP...

Hold on there.....are you saying that you used a yellow Lake Country cutting pad on the PC at speed 6 with UC? Yikes, that is an aggressive combo.

Under normal operating conditions the paint should not heat up very much with a DA, but when using that extremely aggressive combination, on only a small spot then it is possible to heat the paint up a little. Were you working outside? If so then you may also be feeling the temperature of the paint plus only the small amount of heat generated by the process.

My suggestion is to not use the yellow Lake Country cutting pad unless you are either removing heavy oxidation, heavy swirls or removing sanding marks. Otherwise, you should use the orangle Lake Country cutting pad which is much less aggressive than the yellow pad. Remember, you want to use the least aggressive method to remove defects.

I would give you a few links for what I am talking about but I am already late for a scholarship ceremony.

Yes, getting the paint very hot is never a good thing. And if this was on a urethane bumper cover, then consider yourself lucky that you didn't do some serious damage. An aggressive pad at speed 6 with enough pressure and time to heat up the paint like that can easily lead to twisting of the paint on a bumper cover.

This is a non diminishing abrasive product so it doesn't actually break down. The SMAT technology in this product allows the abrasives to cut uniformly through the buffing cycle. Even so, after a few minutes of work the product will become just a thin, translucent film on the surface and that is your indication that it's time to stop buffing and wipe off.
