Re: New Truck - dealership detailing gimicks
When I bought my Accord two years back, the finance manager tried to sell me the alarm system which was already installed on the car. If I didn't pony up the additional $700, the dealership would uninstall it.
Go ahead, I said, I would rather go with an aftermarket alarm system anyway. The finance manager then tried to tell me that my warranty could be voided if the car's electrical system were compromised. It happens often, he promised me. Show me the stats, I answered.
Bottom line: After refusing to pay $700 for a $200 alarm system, the finance manager finally agreed to sell me the system for $250 if "I promised to refer a friend" to the dealership. I promised, and I kept my promise. I referred a friend to the same dealership just last year.
But not before advising him to hold out on the alarm system.
