  • Goosed Already

I officially declare war on Canadian geese.

I get off the bus the other day and my barely 4 week old S4 has a huge honking pile of goose poop on the roof. Obviously I was pretty ticked off but set out to clean it as soon as I got home. Lo and behold, it was already too late. My otherwise flawless paint job has now gtot acid stains baked in.

I'm not too thrilled that I already need to take compound to my new car and I'm a complete novice at detailing. What would be my best approach? I have both 105 & 205 and I have read they can be applied by hand. I also have a PC7424 but I'm wondering if it's warranted on such a small area.

Should I try 205 by hand and see if I can buff it out that way first? Are there and videos that show how to buff by hand?

Thanks in advance for you help.
    Chris

You shoulda cleaned it off before you went home. I have never seen a finish etched in that small of a time frame

Edit: How long was your car parked?

Golden Rule: Use the least aggressive product that will get the job done.

I would try claying first - that might just work if the stains are above the surface.

Failing that try 205, and failing THAT, move up to 105.

If you still have no joy, try 105 via PC.

Oh and don't forget to seal it all off with a good wax. Good luck!

I catch the bus into Manhattan at 6:00 a.m. and get back around 7:00 p.m. It could have been on there all day for all I know.

Thanks for the tips guys! I'll try clay first followed by 205 and see what happens.

Odds are clay won't do a darn thing, and M205 is likely to be too mild. The damage you're seeing is either stained into or etched into the paint, making it a below surface defect. Claying does nothing on this type of defect.

M205, while worth a shot, is likely to be too mild especially if the paint is at all hard. Still, if it doesn't work then you've spent probably 60 seconds finding this out, and if it does work well, that's even better.

But we're willing to bet you'll need a fairly aggressive hand application of M105 or even Ultimate Compound to get the job done.

How do you know the geese are from Canada?

Sometimes it's not how long it's been on your paint but what the animal ate. Sometimes birds eat acidic berries or something from a plant that has been sprayed chemicals that passes through their system and ends up in one of their dirty bombs. One time I had a dropping that was on my car for no more than 2 hours and it etched. I know this because I have OCD and I checked the car before I went into my parent's house. For me, a couple applications of ScratchX 2.0 worked but it depends on your paint. Like the other members said, start with the least aggressive method and work up from there.

BTW... nice S4. I'll have to keep an eye out for you next time I'm visiting my parents in South Whitehall.

                      Re: Goosed Already

Canada Geese and most birds do not dump when flying, they are physically unable to do so. In fact the only bird that is that is known to defecate while flying is the seagull.
Unless the goose was sitting in a tree, which is highly unlikely, it probably was not goose droppings. Probably a gull after having visited Taco Bell. That aside, whatever it was, it must have eaten some powerful food, to have etched paint in such a short time. Good luck to you.

Like Michael said. Probably should go with the 105. Read the thread first. Good luck to you.

Thanks GT! I'm usually out that way on w/e's when I run to Vitamin Shoppe on 145. If you see a white S4 it will probably be me

                            Re: Goosed Already

So just to close this out, I did a full detail on the outside yesterday. Wash, clay, polish & wax. After claying I hit the bird poop spot by hand with some M205 and moderate pressure. It came right out. That M205 is some pretty good stuff! I guess the marks really weren't that deep.

I'm just stoked that I'm back to that nice deep polished look! Meguiars products rock!!!

Nice, glad it worked out for you and that you didn't have to go too aggressive to get the desired result.
