  • What are these?

Okay, I'm not sure but I think this belongs in the "we told you so" category. So feel free to say, "I told you so".

It has been raining, my car was dirty, I was in a hurry, daylight was fading, so I drove through a touchless car wash. I wanted the blow dry, so I had to go for the more expensive wash which includes their finish treatments. I'm going to do a full clean, polish, and wax in a week or so, so no big deal right?

I pulled out to dry some of the remaining droplets of water when I was greeted with black leopard spots, seemingly just on the sides of the car(?).

Forgive the horrid photo, but you can make out the spots on my hands. Standing on concrete next to a wooden fence. Those are not spots on the concrete, they're on the car. Pea sized to dime sized at the most.

I carry Ultimate Quik Detailer with me, always. In a panic, I spray some on and wipe it off. NOTHING, spots remain. Okay let's try some more and a bit of "passion". Now they start to go away. I don't like getting too carried away with microfiber as black Lexus paint seems to draw swirls out of thin air. Daylight faded and this morning the car seems okay.

Oh experienced and wise ones, what in the world were those spots? I must admit its been since March since I've done a full clean, polish and wax (Gold Class) on the sides of the car. Hood and liftgate are fresh with #26, which had no or few leopard spots. My theory is the spots are areas my wax protection is wearing thin and absorbed their product.

    Thanks,

    Re: What are these?

My though is that it is the wax product of the car wash that was repelled by your Gold Class, sat on the surface and dried. I'd hit it with a clay bar and see if it came off and if it didn't, try something like a Swirl X. My bet is that if you can remove them with UQD and a little passion, they should come off easily with the clay bar. Then make sure to rewax and promise the detailing gods that you will never go into such a car wash again. Good luck.

I dunno about repelled, but I would think that however they spray wax on is involved.

Its the spray wax, (ie. cheap car wash trash) that is running down your door panels. A clay bar or pre-wax cleaner should take it all off. But remember it will also take off your wax so reapply your own preferred brand of hard, soft or cream wax.

By repelled I meant didn't absorb, making it stand there in blobs until it hardened.
