  • NXT Tech Wax 2.0 - frequency of use

When applying a fresh coat of NXT Tech Wax 2.0 does it remove the old wax or does it apply on top of the old wax effectively increasing the depth of protection?

After reading other threads - it appears that the preferred method is to apply two very thin coats of wax. How long do you wait between coats?

    Thanks for the help

Think of it more as filling in missed spots with wax.

As far as waiting, 15 minutes is nice, 12 hours for best looks.

So for best results you apply one coat at 8:00am then apply another coat at 8:00pm then wipe it off at 8:30pm?

WOW - that seems pretty extreme

I believe Murr means to apply one coat, wipe it off, wait however long you want, then apply another coat and wipe off. At least that's how I've always taken it.

you should wait the for the wax to set up using the swipe test before the first wipe off. With NXT it takes a little longer than you might be used to with conventional paste wax. 15-30 minutes is going to be your average based on humidity and temp. Waiting the 12hrs is rec. for the second coat to allow the first coat to "set up" if you will, Im not an engineer but the wax needs to cure.

I usually apply one coat and then the next weekend do a gentle wash and apply a second coat. I can tell that my car is waxed during that first wash and the second coat the following weekend goes on very easily.

I do it that way as I dont have a place for my car to sit 12hrs with out dust, dirt or pollen getting on it so I would have to wash it again anyway.

As you play with the products you will fall into a routine that works for you. One coat of NXT is pretty darn good as it is. You could use spray wax the remainder of the month and apply a fresh coat of wax on the first of the month also.

Being in Florida the sun and the rain is going to wear that wax our regardless of the manufacture.

            Well, really combining both posts...

            Apply wax.
            Let dry, 15-30 min.
            Remove Wax.
Let wax sit 15 min to 12 hr to cure.
            Apply wax.
            Let dry, 15-30 min.
            Remove Wax.

              Thanks for the clarification.
I have waxed the car a few times using the NXT Tech Wax 2.0 and it has always seemed to come out nice. Perhaps on Memorial Day weekend I will attempt to wax it, wash it and wax it again so that it looks it's best on PT this year.

FYI NXT is a sealant not a wax. Sealants should sit for a recommended 12+hrs before applying a second coat.

Some of us wax so frequently that a second coat within a 12-24 hour period makes very little sense at all.

Didn't someone once say..."Find a product you like and use it often."

My routine is generally to let it sit overnight in the garage for the cure time between coats.

I am not sure how to classify my habits as far as car appearance goes. I tend to wash my car every time I drive it or at least every other time I drive it. I believe that I wax it every 8 to 10 washes. This is a toy so it is not driven every day or even every week. It lives in a garage and is covered with old sheets when not in use. I haven't been able to bring myself to even use the quick detail stuff without washing the car first. PowerTour is pretty hard on it as it will be washed 7 or 8 times in a week and most likely will be exposed to a measurable amount of miles in the rain. I just wanted to be sure I was as protected as possible.

                      Thanks guys.

Using a QD will be better on the finish then covering it in old sheets

You may want to look into a sealant that last a that last longer then NXT and then cover it with a quality nuba wax when going to the shows or on the power tour.

Seal then Wax, and yes let the Sealant and Wax sit about 30 min after application and then begin the removal. I usually Seal, Remove, Wax Remove then wait 4-8 hrs and Wax once more. Repeat every 2 weeks.

Every 2 weeks partly because I live in a city with lots of salt/sand on the road from our harsh winters and partly because I'm neurotic and I like the best beading shine I can muster.

I know I only need to Seal every 4-6 months and Wax every month or two, but I own the shop and I also really like to work on the car. Its not just my job, but a pleasure. I like to drive around and have the people beside me in traffic able to check their hair in my paint.
