  • Meguiar's Glass Cleaner

I just used some on my windshield and all the streaks on it came off surprisingly. I've used multiple products and none have done what they claimed, a streak-free finish.

My problem is that when the sun hits the car, you can see streaks. Anytime its parked in the garage under my lights, I can't see anything, but out in the sun there are visible streaks.

I used a microfiber towel to apply it and another to wipe it off. I was thinking about using newspaper, but don't want to mess up the finish I have now as that is the best it has ever been so far.

Anyone know what the best way is to get a streak-free finish?

A lot of streaks happen from using too much product.

Assuming the car was washed, so the glass is fairly clean already, one trigger pull is about enough (if not more than enough) for a side window, or half the front/back. Then wipe it around, then flip to a dry side for a final wipe around.

I use RainX as well, so that kind of gets rid of any extra outside streaking also.

If the window was very dirty, I will find myself doing a 'rough cleaning' with more cleaner. Then go back around for a 'final cleaning' with just a light spritz, kind of like above.

Also, glass could need claying as well. Kind of like wax smearing, the smoother the surface, the better the results.

Murr's second post, beat me to it. I like to start with as clean as possible glass before I use glass cleaner. Claying is a must for the first time. Also whenever I clay a vehicle, I always clay the glass.

Another tip that might help you is this.

When cleaning your glass, try this. Go in a vertical motion on the exterior glass. Horizontal on the interior. This way if there is a streak. You know instantly if it is on the inside or outside.

JA- that horizontal interior, vertical exterior, is pure genius.

This is spot on. You need enough glass cleaner to get through the junk, but often times that means you're using so much cleaner that it is forced to self dry on the glass. And that leads to streaking. That second light spritz followed up by wiping with a dry towel is what's going to really help eliminate streaking. If you do the final light spritz and then wipe down with a wet towel, you're right back where you started from.

I use the glass cleaner sparingly with two (one will get saturated and cause streaking) microfiber (prefer the low nap edgeless ones for windows) towels.

I don't think anyone has mentioned, the care instructions on microfibers recommend washing glass towels separately from the ones you use on your car, as the residual chemicals could cause streaking.
