I try to think of future readers doing a search on this subject and ensure that viable info is available.

And just who is going to come on a detailing forum in search of how to best prepare the internals of their engine for storage? We just don't really need two guys debating the finer points of engine storage in a thread where someone is asking about paint care upon removal from storage.

Perhaps you might like to read at least some of the article before passing judgement as to wither its an article on storage of internal engine parts

[TOGWT, Superior write-up of how to put a Vette in storage, this is the best overall coverage of the topic that I've seen. Thanks!] mhaber CF Senior Member (Corvette Forum)

TOGWT, so you took part of a larger post on full vehicle storage and posted it here. Problem was, this thread asked about paint care and the part you posted was specific to engine start up and then you and aris began debating it. That debate is totally out of place here as it's already starting to get nasty. I do NOT want to close this thread since the OP is going to be coming home soon and will want to discuss the condition of the paint on his two cars when he gets back.

Both of you, please kill the engine discussion NOW. End it.

Re: My Car Has Been In Storage For 3 Years

Alright so I made it back home and got a chance to look at one of my vehicles in person. First thing I noticed was it was covered in dust, which looked like sand! I also noticed what looked like fine scratched on the roof of the car. The engine was also very dusty, as well as the wheels. I do not have pictures right now, but I will try to get some soon. The paint still looks shiny and still feels somewhat smooth. I will post an update of my other vehicle when I pick it up.

I wouldn't feel for smoothness with heavy dust on the paint, as you're sure to instill scratches/swirls.

First thing I would do would be to wash it with water/car wash soap. Forget about using instant detailer.

That's my plan in the next couple of days. I am getting ready to go out and buy GC or NXT Car Wash..........

Washed the car today with GC, and the paint looks good and somewhat smooth. I will still clay it and get rid of some of the fine scratches I noticed. Here are the pics:

Im not sure if anyone can notice, it looks like a red stain, any ideas how to get it out?

This is where does scratches are located, I have swirlX, would this work or should I go with scratchX?

                            Try the SwirlX first.
