  • How long to work SwirlX

I tried swirlX on my white truck, dang this forum! I always thought my paint was pretty good, but looking at it in sunlight at an angle I can see some swirls in it. I worked a 1.5'x1.5' section with about a quarter amount for about 2 mins. Circular, up/down, sideways. Most came out, but there are still a few. I also noticed it would start to dry and clump up. Before I go for a more aggressive product I would like to know if Im doing it right first. Any tips or video on how to?
    Thanks

Sounds like you are doing mostly everything correct. I would shrink the work area to 1' by 1' though to make it a little easier. Try doing this and working the product for the same amount of time or until it begins to dry. Once it starts to dry, do not work it anymore. Instead, wipe off and inspect. If needed, spray some QD and wipe off if the product becomes stubborn upon removal.

Also, what kind of applicator are you using?

Meguiars is currently working on a Quik Tips video series that will eventually show the proper technique to removing swirls by hand and machine.

Let me check to see if I can find a video for you.

Alright, checked my favorites and found an older thread on how to remove scratches by hand: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...&threadid=7011. The producs have changed but the technique for the most part is the same.

Here is an article for the type of applicators to use: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42003

Here is a video that will give you a background on the three consumer paint prepping products: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36523
All of three of these products are used to remove swirls and scratches prior to polishing and waxing in order to achieve the best possible shine.

Be sure to look through the Working by Hand section, How-to-Articles, and How to Videos of this forum. These are invaluable sections to anyone looking to revamp their technique or learn for the first time.

Certainly possible 2-3 applications may be needed in one area.

Removing swirls by hand is not quick.

          Thanks!
I was using a foam pad.
From the sounds I was doing it right, may just be deeper then what I thought. Maybe I just need a 2nd or 3rd attempt at it. There is no way in heck I am doing my truck by hand, DA here I come!

Well, also where stronger products may come in.

1 coat of UC may equal 2-3 of SwirlX, or that kind of thing. Only rough estimate of course.

You really have to apply a lot of "passion" when doing it by hand. multiple passes are not uncommon.
