  • Help with scratch x, polish, and wax!

I havent had my Mustang GT for too long but I noticed that in full sun there is some unattractive light scratches and what looks to be like where someone took a towel or something to dry the car off. Its still great, deep and rich looking paint (the car only has 60000 miles) and I recently clay bared, polished, and then finished with a couple coats of wax. The paint is better but there are still some ugly light scratches that are visible when the sun hits it.

I didnt use a buffer. I did everything by hand. Please give me some tips on making this pain come back to life completly!

Pick up some Swirlx, Ultimate Compound, G110V2 and half a dozen pads. If you can't pick up the DA then you can do this by hand but it will take quite a while for the whole car.

Start by doing a test spot regardless of whether you are doing this by hand or with the DA. Tape off about a 1' X 1' section if doing by hand, 2' X 2' if by machine, and start out with Swirlx. Work it in thouroghly and remove with a high quality microfiber such as a Supreme Shine Microfiber. Use the sun to check your progress and see if the scratches have been removed. If they haven't then try Swirlx one more time and if the scratches still remain then step it up to Ultimate Compound.

When working by hand remember to use a foam applicator as it is the most forgiving pad. When working by hand, it may take 4-5 applications before you see the results you want. Search on here for a little bit for further advice on either machine polishing or hand polishing.

This is very similar to what I am working on now, I have a 2001 Blue GT that seems to be in similar condition. Working with a G110v2 and UC was working but slowly. Have since gone to M105/205 with excellent results although it is still a slow go but worth it. My clear coat is very hard but shines up very nice. Stay with it, Guy.
