  • water spots

    Hi,

I have a 2006 300c srt8 silver. Just got water spots on the hood from a sprinkler system in the desert.

I have used clay bar and they have not come out.

They are about the size of a nickel...so blotches.

    Any sugggestions?

Also I was told there was a detailer from Meguires at Hillbank in Irvine a couple of weeks ago that I should contact to see if he can help...any idea who this might be?

Or are there any suggestions for a great detailer in Laguna Niguel area?

    Thanks

    Jeff

    Re: water spots

Seems like I saw a thread a while back about using a DA with #4 heavy cut cleaner for cleaning the glass of hard water etching.

I have used some fine cut cleaner by hand to clean the windshield in the past with good results, however it wasn't to remove hard water spots. Someone may chime in about the heavy cut cleaner, in the meantime I'll see if I can find the thread.

      Re: water spots

I would use a terry cloth applicator and some elbow grease for getting water spots off windows. A DA does not allow the user to apply sufficient pressure while maintaining cutting ability (rotation of the pad) which is why it is safe. I would recommend either a rotary buffer or some good elbow grease and a terry cloth towel/applicator.

You could try using the DA but I am not sure which pad you would use because I have not tried a DA on glass yet. I will also look for the thread....

        Re: water spots

http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31751. Here is the thread for cleaning water spots from glass using a rotary buffer.

Reading your post again, I realize that you are not referencing cleaning water spots on glass, but on paint. You could use a DA and some Ultimate Compound on a W8207 Polishing Pad to remove the water spots. This should take care of the problem. The sooner you take care of the water spots the better.

You could also try using a foam applicator by hand and some Ultimate Compound, but this requires time and patience. It could take up to 4-5 applications before you see the results you are working towards. Remember to use a foam applicator because they are the most forgiving applicators as they have no cut of their own; they will not scratch the finish.
