    Re: Pad Selection

Diameter really. The 4 inch pads are easier to maneuver around tight areas compared to the larger pads. Other than that, they are similar to the larger 2.0 pads (7207, 8207, 9207).

      Re: Pad Selection

Our 4" and 7" pads share foam construction, so as long as you're comparing polishing to polishing, finishing to finishing and cutting to cutting, the only difference is the diameter. All can be machine washed and dried. Keep in mind, however, that using a 4" pad on a D/A really concentrates the energy to a small area, so your total cut will go up. That is, if you run Ultimate Compound on a 4" yellow polishing pad at speed 5 you will get a lot more cut than the same liquid and speed on a 7" pad. That is really important to think about when aggressively trying to remove severe defects, especially on urethane bumper covers. Just use caution.

        Re: Pad Selection

my next project is my girlfriends car and it is has alot of swirls and faded. would it be worth the time to do it all with a 4" pad because it is so bad?

The thing I want to approve on is my time. how long I spend on one area.. but yet be aggressive enough to move on. It seems like I could spend 6 days on a car and still not get it looking like it should.

It all depends on how the paint responds. If the paint is pretty workable then the 7" pads should be just fine - we use them all the time in our classes, on a very wide variety of paint finishes.
