  • #80 cakes up in middle of polishing pad?

    Hello,

I am new to the PC and have been using it to polish my car with #80 and a Meguiars polishing pad. Only problem I am facing is that the center of the pad is getting loaded up with product. I don't know how much this is going to affect my results, so I was wondering if I should try to clean the pad or is this normal of the #80?

I would post pics of the pad (and progress of the car) but my friend has my digi cam.

    Happy holidays!

    Hey,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!! and...

    Merry Christmas!!!

If the #80 Speed Glaze is caking up, two things are probably happening. First either too much product is being used; or, you need to clean you pad more often by either brushing the pad with a plastic bristled brush or by wiping a clean towel across it.

Try a little less product amd/or cleaning the pads.

    I hope this helps!

      Tim,

That is what I assumed, but I really wanted an opinion from someone who is experienced. Thanks for the welcome and quick reply!

A used toothbrush is ususally stiff enough to clean the build up of of the pad, but gentle on the pad itself

I've been using a soft bristled toothbrush on my pads and it works very well. Due to the size of the brush head it takes awhile to do one pad. The next thing I'm going to try is one of those soft plastic bristled detail brushes. They're a little bit bigger so that may save some time.

            Hey,

I too use a larger brush that has an angled head making it perfect for cleaning pads. I just have no idea where the brush came from. I will ask my wife and see if she has an idea where we bought it.

My local P&B shop has them (that's where I got my spurs and brushes) but, I have no idea what brand they are... if Tim comes up empty, I'll see if I can get him to point me in the correct direction...
