  • New Project, old water marks

I retrieved an old family car from storage last weekend that had been in a leaky garage for 10 years, uncovered. I gave it a good wash and there appear to be many marks on the vehicle that resulted from water dripping on the dusty car and wearing off. The car was painted about 20 years ago, and as I recall is a base coat/clear coat. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures. I tried a small spot with cleaner wax with no luck.

My plan of action is to first clay the panels with the marks, then use something like Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner (if I can find it), and then move on to a 7207 or 8207 pad with Ultimate Compound with my DA. Just returned my DA last week due to a problem and I am hoping the new one is on the way.

I'd appreciate any input/critique/advice you more experienced guys might have.

I think you have a good process. Deep Cristal Paint Cleaner isn't really necessary.

So your process should look like
Wash - Clay - UC + Polishing Pad on DA - Wax

I really would do a test spot on a section to see the results you'll be getting

Thanks Yalerd. Hopefully, my replacement DA is en route from Meguiar's so that I can get to this.
