  • Some waxing questions

I have both NXT 2.0 and Gold Glass Carnuaba Plus...

First time I waxed the car it did not come out good. There was like this layer of 'cloudiness'

What did I do wrong? I spread out about 3 pea sized amounts onto my applicator, spread it out semi-lightly, left it alone for about 1-2mins then wiped off. But as I said it left this cloudiness instead of wiping completely off. I have already clayed, ultimate compounded then used SwirlX to finish off.

So....My question now is what product is the SAFEST to remove the old wax and basically start from scratch? Non-abrasive.

It is for my 87 260E:

    Thanks guys,

    Re: Some waxing questions

1-2 minutes is nowhere near sufficient drying time for either of these waxes, especially the NXT Tech Wax 2.0. It sounds like you're using a small enough amount of product, which is good, but what you should do is apply a very thin layer to all painted surfaces of the car and then give it another 20-30 minutes of drying time before wipe off. You want either of these to be totally dry before wiping off or the cloudiness or streaking you see can be result.

If you're used to old school heavy carnauba waxes this process might sound crazy, but trust on this - the product will wipe off easier if you let it dry longer than you think necessary than if you try to take it off too soon. Just make sure to lay it down in a very thin coat.

Check out this thread for a bit more info on thin vs thick application and how to use the swipe test to ensure the wax is fully dry before wipe off.

      Thanks Michael,
Maybe that is the reason. I have been using the UQW before I looked into the benefits of a longer term solution...and UQW only needs a minute before wiping off.

Which would you say is the better product between NXT 2.0 and Carnuba Plus? My entire goal is protection from the sun out here in California as I park my car outside.

Also my second question on old the wax removal?

        Re: Some waxing questions

It is possible that washing or QDing and just applying a second coat of wax and letting it dry properly will solve the problem.

If the above does not work, or you really want to start over, just wash, then use SwirlX (no need to dry) or ColorX (let dry like a wax), and wax.

NXT 2.0 as it is synthetic.

How long ago did you wax your car?

Like Michael said, You did not let the wax dry long enough. You could wash, swirl-x then wax. That should fix it.

Like the others have stated. The swirl-x does not need to dry. After working it in, wipe off.

One that contains ultra violet (UV) protection

Cranauba wax does not contain a natural UV protection, check on the polymer sealents you plan to use to ensure it contains a UV protection

                    Re: Some waxing questions

All of our waxes contain UV inhibiting polymers, including our carnauba products. But NXT Tech Wax 2.0 is our best protecting, longest lasting wax. Well, technically it's a fully synthetic sealant, but that nomenclature tends to confuse the average consumer so the word "wax" is still there.
