  • Blotching with NXT Next Gen 2.0

Just finished doing the paint on my Black BMW 335I to get rid of spider webs, light scratches etc....with the following:

    1. Clay
    2. 2, X Ultimate Compound
    3. 2, X Scratch 2.0
    4. 2, X NXT Next Gen 2.0

The finish now looks blotchy with dark spots in many places?

This is going to need pics in order to properly judge the situation. However, I can say that he blotchyness, if you will, may be caused by not allowing the NXT 2.0 to properly dry.

Did you perform the swipe test to see if the wax is dry?

NXT 2.0 really needs about 20 mins or longer to set-up in the limited amount of times I have used it. Sometimes, wiping off too soon will leave blotchy areas but going over these areas with some Quik Detailer the following day shoudl clear things up.

It was hot (95) and humid out today in SW Florida and I left it dry for what seemed like 25-30 minutes but I questioned whether or not it totaled dryed.

I was also going to try a polish like #7 to see if it made any difference. Now that I applied NXT not sure if I should now.

I'll try to go over it tomorrow and see

I would be thinking not quite dry as well.

I have heard of this before.

Sounds like the wax hasn't cured properly, most likely because it was applied too thick.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Re: Blotching with NXT Next Gen 2.0

I just did my Lemans Blue C6 Corvette on Fathers Day. I spent the entire day going over the car and had the same results. I made sure to apply it lightly. I was never able to get a "clean" swipe test even after letting it sit for an hour or so on each panel. I removed it with a microfiber. The car looked fine, but each wipe would leave smear marks.

The next day, if I ran my finger over it, there would be a smear. I again wiped it down with a microfiber. Under the flourescent lights in my garage it looked great.

Today I had some time to go far a ride and when I came back and had the car in the bright sun, it looked horrible. It was blotchy all over the place. Again with the microfiber and this time I had to apply some pressure to clean it up. In the right angle, you could still see smear marks as I wiped. It is almost as if the NXT never cured.

I'm very frustrated with this product. I have been a Meguiars product user for many, many years and this is the first time I have not been satisfied with the results.

            My process was:

            Wash with water
            Clay bar using UQD
Polish with #83 (applied with DA)
Top coat with NXT 2.0 (new bottle applied by hand with foam pad)

            Tom

PS, I made sure to apply it as lightly as I could. I could see the material when viewing from an angle, but looking straight on you could hardly see it.

Perhaps washing with water may have been the problem and you waxed over some dirt or something.

Better off starting a new thread instead of bumping this one though.
