  • remove wax before clay?

Simple question, do I need to remove my #20 coating before using clay? (using the smooth clay kit)
    Thanks.

No, you don't have to. The clay will still be able to do its job. However you will want to apply a new coat of wax after claying, as your wax job will be compromised. What are you trying to do?

I think a fresh coat could hinder claying, but any coat of wax that has been on the surface a while seems to be fine to leave on and clay.

Go ahead and clay. Then apply fresh wax.

Wash with Dawn dish soap before claying. It will remove all wax and polish on your car.
