What kind of vehicle? I'm assuming unpainted plastic trim.

I've had good results with M40 on the plastic and rubber trim of my 2004 Ford Escape - the plastic cladding king of the road (aside from mid 90s Pontiacs).

I have found I like Ultimate Protectant on the outside black plastic unpainted trim. Not sure about how to remove the wax though, if you have Body Solvent that would probably do it.

#40 should clean the wax residue off the trim. If it doesn't you can bump it up a cleaning notch and use #39 Heavy duty vinyl / rubber cleaner.

Is it smooth plastic or textured plastic? You can try using a pink rubber eraser to get the wax off, or even some peanut oil (or whatever the oily stuff is that floats on top of peanut butter). Any chance of some pics so we can make a recommendation as to how to treat and protect the plastic?
