So I have heard that the SwirlX and the Mirror Glaze Ultra Polish #205 are the same thing or so close that there is no noticeable difference except for the price. Anybody know about this or have experience with these two polishes?

Re: SwirlX and Ultra polish #205 the same thing?
They are not the same. SwirlX has more cut than 205.

SwirlX has another noticeable difference - it's much thicker than almost any other polish or compound produced by Meguiars

Re: SwirlX and Ultra polish #205 the same thing?
The reason I ask is that I have very light swirls/marks in a 2007 Escape and wanted to use the 205 but can't find it in my area. SwirlX is everywhere. I wanted to go with something light and was going to use the 205 and was told SwirlX is the same thing, evidently not. I have a PC 2474 polisher.

Just out of curiosity, where did you hear that SwirlX and M205 are the same product? We'd love to correct this misconception elsewhere if we can.Michael Stoops

I seen it on a website while I was trying to get info on M205. Michael, Should I go with SwirlX or M205? I was leaning towards M205 because it appears it give a good shine while removing light swirls although SwirlX is more cost effective. I will follow up with a coat of wax after either application but I really want the paint to shine. Here is the website that claims they are basically the same thing.

Re: SwirlX and Ultra polish #205 the same thing?
Well, that website is only correct on one point about these two products, and that is that the cut is very similar between them - all else being equal (pad, tool, speed, pressure, etc). But they are not the same product at all. M205 may not cut any more than SwirlX but it will impart a higher degree of clarity to a well prepared surface and is definitely the premium product between the two (not to mention M205 is body shop safe and SwirlX is not). Heck, just look at the consistency of the two products and you can tell they're different.
But which one should you choose? Well, we suppose that website is correct about another point - SwirlX is certainly much less expensive than M205. It's also usually easier to source, so if budget and availability are concerns then SwirlX is probably going to win out for you needs.Michael Stoops
