  • Too much wax?

Can a person literally apply too much wax? For instance, a few days ago I clayed, M83, M05, and NXT2-x2. Can I apply another coat(or two of NXT2) every 3 weeks? And would I need to do the clay, M83, and M05 in addition to that?

    Many Thanks:

nope you can never put "too much". but remember there is only so much paint surface to bond to. So for example if you put on 3 layers of nxt 2.0 layer one will cover 95% of your pait, layer two will cover 3% and layer one will cover 2%. so applying lots of wax often is basically just wasting product.

you can put to much wax on, making it difficult to remove and waste product, on the other hand you cant wax to often.
Especially if your car is outside and you wash every week and wax once a month.

I also believe you can apply wax to thick. I also believe in the law of diminishing returns. by that I mean after a few coats of wax, thats enough. Any more will not add to your protection, or gloss.

On the other hand, the idea of the 2nd coat is to ensure full coverage of the car. So, if you apply thicker wax layer, you can see visually if you miss any part of the car.

I think every 3 weeks is not too much...will keep the paint nice and slick. And you shouldn't need to clay, M83, and M05 at all. I would do those about every 6 months.

In my post I was not referring to 2 coats of wax. i was referring to people that have 5,6 or more coats of wax. I personally am a big believer in the 2 thin coat procedure.

                Re: Too much wax?

I'm up to 22 coats and my car rarely even leaves the garage. I've only washed it once in over a year.

It's pretty much a waste of time, but I just enjoy doing it. Multiple coats don't add or detract at all as far as looks and the application and removal process isn't altered either.

UQD or UQW takes me c. 15 minutes. NXT 2.0 or P21S, c. 50 minutes so I usually opt for the real wax after a few weeks of UQD'ing.

It's cheaper than Psychotropic drugs, and besides, you gotta have a hobby!!
