  • Scratched side mirror lens, etc.

I've never polished/waxed my car. I have an old car so I decided it would be a good guinea pig for my first polish and wax.

Unfortunately, I made a mistake, or shall I say I've created my first "Learning opportunity." I accidentally used a microfiber with polishing residue on my side mirror. Therefore, I've created fine scratches on my mirror Is there any way I can repair this mistake? Also, is the side mirror glass or plastic? I have a 1997 accord.

In addition, the car has heavy oxidation. By viewing the image below, is the oxidation too far gone or is it salvageable? Thanks!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it appears that both the mirror and that fender are beyond repair.

Mirror glass scratches very easily, and I do not believe it can be polished back to its original state.

As for the fender, it looks as if the paint is failing - it will need a re-paint.

Yeah, I hate to say, but that looks like clear coat failure. The only answer to that is to repaint the panel.

Thanks for the info Coopers and Mark. I'll take better care of my car next time. I've learned a lot from this website. Thanks again!
