  • RO Buffer & Wool bonnet & #9

How would a wool bonnet(craftsman classifies it as a polishing bonnet) and #9 work together?

I used a wool bonnet a couple weeks ago with #7 and had real good results. Since #9 is more abrasive than #7(non-abrasive), will the wool worsen the existing swirl marks when combined with #9?

In general a wool pad is going to put swirls in to the paint. Wool is for removing severe defects only, or for use right after wet sanding. If you want to get swirls out you'll need a foam polishing pad.

      I agree with Rick.

#9 is a very, very light cleaner/polish, but when used with wool, the wool fibers will will cut the finish. This will remove below surface defects, like scratches, but it will also leave it's own scratch pattern in the finish which will show up in bright light as buffer swirls also referred to as holograms.

If you use a wool pad to buff the finish with, you should consider re-polishing the paint with a foam pad and a cleaner/polish to remove any swirls the wool instills.
