Tire Shine on bumpers

I was detailing my truck a few days back and when I was putting some nxt generation tire shine in the aerosal can on my tires, I also procedded to put some on the black trim on the top of my bumpers and bottom plastic on tailgate and side molding etc... that were fairly faded, it did a fantastic job! But afterwards I saw on the back of the can it said not to use on plastic, is this safe to continue useing? I thought tire shine and trim protectant were pretty much the same...
Also is nxt generation solvent based or water based?

Did it say not to use on clear plastic or on platic in general? I have used "tire shine" on my trim pieces before when I ran out of M40 and it worked fine. It did not have a long life span on the non-porous trim though but that was the only negative. I do not know if NXT tire shine is water-based or solvent based (like All Season Dressing).

I would to see if one of the Mike's here at Meguiars could answer that question of solvent or water-based? Though my gut says water-based.

You will find the many Mike's from Meguiars are detailing wizards and have an inordinate amount of information they could either find out or already know!

Thanks for the prompt response, I detailed my truck last Monday and it has rained 3 days since then, and it has held up better then Mothers Back to Black and several other products I have used.
But don't want to use it again till I know its safe to do so.. I'm curious what the differences are between the trim and tire shine.

I have never had trouble on the black/gray plastic either.

I would guess, in a pinch nit would be okay. I am not sure about repeated use. The warning is there for a reason.

I think the plastic part is talking about headlights/taillights and such (i.e.- clear, "shiny" plastics)? I've used tire dressing on black/gray plastic trim many times with no problems.

You should be just fine doing this, but with one possible exception - it might prove to be rather slippery and stepping on the treated area could find you slipping off. Which could be bad. Very bad.

If you are not experiencing a high level of slickness and you're really happy with the end result, go for it. But if the surface is really slippery (especially when wet) then you might want to rethink the process.

It's solvent based, which is why it's going to outlast your typical water based dressings. But also why it could be a lot more slippery. Well, that and it's not really designed for that exact surface.

How does Supreme shine hold up on exterior surface's? I wish the ultimate came in spray form.. Oh Well...

Surpreme Shine works great......when there is no water at all. The slightest drop of water will make this dressing run. Out of all the dressings I have tried, it is my favorite on appearance but least favorite on durability. But, thats the game you have to play with water based dressings.

Thats what i don't want... That tire shine that's on my bumpers now from over a week ago still looks pretty good and it's not running off at all. I think im gonna try thay new ultimate one even though its not a spray.

We hate to say this, but if you're going to use Ultimate Protectant on the bumpers now, you're going to need to make sure the tire shine product is totally and completely off the surface or the UP may not bond. APC and a brush of some sort will likely be needed, maybe even a glass cleaner.

which one is the best for faded trim after I clean all tire shine off, ultimate, gold class trim detailer or #40, also what is the ease of use of these products. I used mothers "back to black" one time and it just soaked in and left streaks!! I would like a nice hi gloss shine.

Scott, if you can get all the tire shine removed then we would suggest Ultimate Protectant as your best bet here. Check out these images from our last Thursday Night Open Garage where UP was used on very badly neglected bumpers of a Jeep Cherokee:





Run off in the rain shouldn't be an issue with this product.
