I have an ongoing debate about applying plastic film ("clear bra") to car finishes to protect against nicks, scratches, etc. I personally think the finish can never look as good -- especially dark colors -- when a film has been applied. Do you agree with me that a well-detailed car (as described here) will always look better than when you're polishing plastic put on by some after-market outfit? Thanks for your thoughts.

Well, it has some to do with personal preference, some to do with the film in question, and also who installs it.

But the real question isn't how does healthy paint look with or without, the question would be to ask whether you prefer having visible nicks and chips, or a line and slightly less clear coating?

In some cases, not using a clear bra will mean the eventual need for a re-paint, and significant chipping in the mean time.

I used it on my lower fascia because my car is very low - I can't even see it at all.

I like this clear bra so much that I even wrapped the bumper, front spoiler, side mirrors and the first portion of my roof (extend half way to the sunroof). Then after 3 years, I replaced them all with new film.

My car is silver so it hardly shows.
